Still trying to find the soundtrack to your summer? Ashleigh Ball, lead singer of Hey Ocean, is putting out her solo debut this week, and it may just be the perfect thing.
Gold in You is a seven-track EP that Ball wrote and recorded over the past two years while her Juno-nominated indie rock band, Hey Ocean!, took a break from touring. Ball recorded it in Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated producer Ajay Bhattacharyya, a.k.a. Stint (Gallant, Santigold, NAO, AlunaGeorge). While the EP features a similar upbeat, sunny tone as her main band, musically the album sees the singer exploring her pop and R&B inclinations.
The first single from the EP, “Crazy,” is a smooth, rhythmic number that showcases Ball's versatility as a singer. The song’s video was shot in Vancouver's Pacific Spirit Regional Park and sees the singer playing with the idea of wanting to live two different lives at once.
“This video is meant to be a little look into the life of that inner wild woman who shows up when you least expect and takes over,” Ball told Exclaim! earlier this month. “A glimpse into my imagination and that delicate dance with my crazy side."
The EP is full of energy and wonder, from the playful pop of “Never Found” to the addictive beat of “Blue Moon,” and it will keep you dancing with your inner wild side all summer long. Listen to our advance stream of it now before its release on June 2.
