My Playlist: Sophie Milman on her personal tastes, from Amy Winehouse to Diana Krall

By
Carole Warren

Juno winner Sophie Milman is this week's guest host on Inside the Music and she's celebrating the singer and the song. Mostly the female variety. She's got great taste too: Carman McRae, Serena Ryder, Feist, Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner and Joni Mitchell all have a special place on her playlist.

Milman was a nineteen-year-old business student studying at the University of Toronto when she made the switch to music. Her debut album in 2004 (when she was just 21), put her career on an international fast track. A few years later, her next album peaked at number 3 on the U.S. Billboard jazz chart and won the Juno for vocal jazz album of the year.

Milman was performing around the world at prestigious venues: the Kennedy Centre, the Hollywood Bowl, the Blue Note in New York and Tokyo and Toronto’s Massey Hall.

And just so you know, Sophie Milman also hit the business books again in between tours and finished that degree. She even won the gold medal. Of course, she missed the ceremony. She was off singing somewhere.
