National pride brought friends together as we continued to paint the walls of the House of Strombo red and white.
The Strombo Show ran the gamut this Sunday night, keeping the spirit of radio alive by delivering the best records in the best order. It's a show for music lovers by music lovers, ranging over three hours of commercial-free music to honour both old and new.
George Stroumboulopoulos was joined by the iconic Canadian institution Barenaked Ladies for an intimate conversation and performance, while singer-songwriter and troubadour Dave Bidini (Bidiniband, Rheostatics) jammed acoustically.
Nearly 30 years on, Barenaked Ladies maintain their beloved status as Canadian melody-makers with their 14th album, Silverball. They returned to the program to share their anxieties that went into the making of the album, the difference in headspace between opening for Metallica and performing at Alcatraz, plus they collaborated with their old friend Bidini on Rheostatics' "Soul Glue."
Bidini travels with a guitar in one hand and a book in another. After earning his place as one of our nation's most influential voices in Rheostatics, he has continued to write as both a musician and an author. He joined George to deliver a musical history lesson that ranges from defining punk to the importance of Kim Mitchell, while performing songs from his catalogue.
