Last month, it was revealed that Toronto collective Broken Social Scene was officially reuniting and recording a new album after being on hiatus for five years. The band even tested out a new song at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival called “Gonna Get Better.”
Because the band’s number of members constantly fluctuates, it was tough to tell who had signed on to this new album outside of core members like Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff and Sam Goldberg. (Interesting tidbit: Wikipedia doesn’t name any of the band’s members as “past members,” instead listing all 26 names as current members.) But yesterday, longtime member Feist announced on Instagram that she will be joining the band in the studio this week.
“Tomorrow I go join my broken brothers to add my ‘loverspit’ to the new #brokensocialscene album,” she wrote in the caption to a 2004 photo of her performing with the band. She also references “Lover’s Spit,” a song from 2002’s You Forgot It In People on which she sings.
Feist last performed with Broken Social Scene when the band reunited for 2013’s inaugural Field Trip festival in Toronto.
