Martha Wainwright set to release new album, Goodnight City

By
Del Cowie

Martha Wainwright is set to release a new album later this fall. Entitled Goodnight City, it will be Wainwright's followup to her third solo studio album, 2012's Come Home to Mama. Wainwright also released Songs in the Dark last year with half-sister Lucy Wainwright Roche, as the Wainwright Sisters.

According to a statement, the album is produced by Wainwright's husband, bassist Brad Albetta, and Thomas "Doveman" Bartlett. Goodnight City will feature covers as well as original music. Collaborators on the Montreal-based singer-songwriter's new album include Merill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs fame, Beth Orton, Glen Hansard and celebrated novelist Michael Ondaatje.

"Because these writers know me and because I was able to personalize these songs by changing things here and there, I made them feel as if I wrote them myself," says Wainwright. "Somehow they wonderfully reflect my life and I am so thankful to the other artists for writing them."

Goodnight City will be released on Nov. 11 on Cadence Music in Canada and will feature the lead single "Around the Bend." Listen to it below.
