Listen to our brand new Alt-Country stream

By
Holly Gordon

The crossroads of country, folk, blues and rock. You'll hear a unique mix that includes single-name icons like Waylon, Willie, & the Hag, country rock pioneers like the Flying Burrito Brothers, The Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd along with new contenders to the outlaw country throne like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Daniel Romano, Corb Lund and more!

Lindi Ortega. Kacey Musgraves. Sturgill Simpson. None of these names fit wholly under the moniker of country music, even if their roots grow firmly from the genre’s tradition. Separate from the hot country that climbs the charts — counting names like Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood and Florida Georgia Line — their version of country is decidedly alt.

And now those artists have a singular home on our site, via our brand new Alt-Country stream.

A place where country, folk and rock meet — with some blues, R&B and soul mixed in — this new channel will take you from Daniel Romano, Margo Price, Ortega, and Simpson to icons like Johnny Cash, Dwight Yoakam and k.d. lang. You’ll also catch country-influenced acts like the Jayhawks, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings and Steve Earle.

Press play above to get the stream started, and check in at cbcmusic.ca/country-folk for all our upcoming content, including coverage of the Canadian Country Music Association Awards on Sept. 11.
