Bruce Springsteen's upcoming autobiography, Born to Run, is one of the most anticipated books of the busy fall publishing season, and a new video of Springsteen reading an excerpt from the memoir is set to only increase the excitement around the release.
In the video, Springsteen reads passages from the book and talks about the process of writing the autobiography, while archived images of the singer-songwriter appear.
"I wanted to use the classic rock and roll images, the road, the car, the girl, what else is there?" Springsteen reads. "It was a language enshrined by Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys, Hank Williams and every lost highway man going back to the invention of the wheel."
Born to Run will be published a few days after a companion album, Chapter & Verse, which will be released on Sept. 23.
Chapter and Verse will feature five unreleased Springsteen songs, and the curated selection will directly reflect the themes explored in the autobiography. The songs will span the entirety of Springsteen's career including songs from the Castiles, with a teenage Springsteen on lead vocals, all the way up to Springsteen's 2012 release, Wrecking Ball.
Springsteen, who has been playing some of the longest shows of his career recently, will be embarking on a book tour to promote his autobiography from Sept. 27 to Oct. 10. No Canadian dates have been announced.
