Larry and the Three Wise Men

By
Carole Warren

Canadian musicians are at the top of the international heap these days, but some of our most famous international icons are not that well known outside of the music industry itself.

This week’s Inside The Music focuses on three pioneering giants: Vancouver superstar manager Bruce Allen; production and technological wunderkind Bob Ezrin and concert promoter genius Michael Cohl. Not surprisingly, they actually have a lot in common. They’re of the same vintage -- the late 60s; they started in the business before they could vote; none of them understood the phrase “You can’t do that” and borders were something to cross, not stay behind. They’re passionate, "love ‘em or hate ‘em" kind of guys, who fly in the face of the quiet and reserved Canadian archetype.

Award-winning journalist and music consultant, Larry Leblanc is the perfect person to tell their stories. Leblanc has serious credentials -- for 15 years he was the Canadian bureau chief for Billboard magazine and he is currently senior writer and columnist for the American weekly trade publication Celebrity Access. As well, Leblanc's own career trajectory has strong similarities to those of his subjects.

Leblanc got his start in the mid 60s booking bands for dances at his high school and hanging out with the musicians at local Toronto clubs. Writing about music started soon after and Leblanc has been writing, watching and asking questions ever since. He’s watched the Canadian music scene go from a cottage industry to an international big business.

On this edition of Inside The Music: "Larry and the Three Wise Men." A show about three remarkable stories, one storyteller and a whole lot of music.
