Violinist Edwin Huizinga is part of a new generation of classical musicians that flourish in the wider world of music. Huizinga says one of his goals in life is to "bring music to as many different kinds of people as he possibly can." He has performed with indie rock bands such as Broken Social Scene and the Mars Volta. He's a full-fledged member of the group the Wooden Sky and he has performed with Tafelmusik, the Wallfisch Band, the San Bernadino Symphony, the Kitchen-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra and many others.
Huizinga grew up on a farm near Guelph, Ontario and studied violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He earned music degrees from Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in California.
A self-professed wandering minstrel, Huizinga performs and teaches all over North America in addition to his concert tours around the world.
On this edition of This Is My Music, Huizinga shares the music he loves.
This Is My Music is heard Saturdays on Radio 2 at 10:00 am ET.
