Martha Wainwright, the Courtneys, Japandroids: Radio 3's top 30 songs for January 9, 2017

If you're looking for some upbeat music to lift your spirits at the beginning of this New Year, you're come to the right place. First of all, take a listen to Os Tropies, a Toronto six-piece influenced by the Tropicália movement of late '60s Brazil. They also incorporate a bit of psych-rock and soul to make a completely distinct sound. Listen to "Vir Me Amar," which sits at #24 on our chart:

 

Second of all, if you're in the mood for indie-pop, look no further than the Courtneys. The Vancouver trio is getting ready to release The Courtneys II on February 17 via New Zealand indie record label Flying Nun. Their single "Silver Velvet" is the highest debut on our chart this week at #19. The video for the song is definitely worth watching, as it plays entirely in reverse:

In the least surprising news of the week, Japandroids move to the #1 position. Their highly anticipated new album, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, is due out on January 27. Watch the video for the title track below.
