Singer-songwriter Basia Bulat returned this year with a splashy, beautiful, effervescent fourth album. Good Advice is the followup to her Juno- and Polaris-nominated Tall Tall Shadow, and on it Bulat explores heartbreak and major life moments with a pop sensibility in a way that only she can: charmingly.
We invited Bulat to CBC Music's Studio 211 to play tracks from this latest album for a group of lucky fans. Bulat herself was both excited and nervous, as this was the first time she played some of these songs live in front of an audience.
The crowd was quiet as Bulat took the mic, but quickly warmed up as she started to play. Watch this episode of Backstage Pass in the video above for Bulat's enchanting performance, and to hear some of the backstory on how the album came together and why this record feels like coming back home.
Watch this episode of Backstage Pass on CBC Television on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m.
