That's The Way Love Goes

Not all Jackson’s are created equally. When your brother is named Michael and is known as the King of Pop and the greatest entertainer to have walked the earth, it can be a little hard to carve out your own path. You’ve seen the struggles of Jermaine and probably shaken your head at the various attempts of Latoya, but there is one Jackson that emerged from her brother’s shadow and is an undeniable icon in her own right. She goes by the name Janet. Growing up in the public eye Janet Jackson became everyone’s little sister and as her music career blossomed she was known as the fierce, no-nonsense performer who rocked military outfits and demanded that she be called Miss Jackson. In the early 90’s she decided to ditch the bulky uniforms and reintroduced herself as the seductive, grown and sexy Janet. The video that marked the turning point was for the song “That’s the Way Love Goes.” Simple and sexy, Janet emerged with a well-sculpted midriff and trend-setting chokers that sent teenage girls running to the gym and the mall. Critics described the song and video as “hypnotic” “iconic” and an “extravaganza.” It has influenced countless artists from Bruno Mars to Britney Spears and also introduced the world to a then unknown background dancer named Jennifer Lopez. Like I said: Iconic. This is Janet Jackson with “That’s the Way Love Goes.”

Yoga

One of Janelle Monae's biggest hits to date is "Yoga." A lot of people called her a sell-out for this commercial and kind of silly song but it was a jam that I still love bumping in my car and honestly, how can you hate on a song that allows you to sing to someone to, get off your areola? Seriously. featuring Jidenna this is Janelle Monae with “Yoga.”

You're Makin' Me High

Toni Braxton is a legend in the world of R&B and she has a slew of iconic music videos under her belt. From running through a maze in a Victorian lace gown for “Breathe Again”, to crying over her deceased boyfriend, the model Tyson Beckford in “Unbreak My Heart.” My personal favourite is the video where she and a celebrity homegirl crew (including Actresses Vivica A. Fox, Erika Alexander and Tisha Campbell) sit with a giant deck of cards and rate the men who arrive via elevator, on a scale of 1-10. It is ridiculous and hilarious and also introduced the world to the sexiest pizza delivery guy I’ve ever seen. No one who delivered pizza to my house ever looked like that! This is Toni Braxton with “You’re Makin' Me High.”
