CBC to broadcast Juno Awards starting in 2018

The home for Canadian music is once again the home of Canadian music's biggest night.

CBC is pleased to announce a new six-year partnership with CARAS to serve as the exclusive broadcast partner of the Juno Awards. Building on such key events as Searchlight, the Polaris Music Prize and last summer's The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration, CBC will once again bring Canadian music fans together at the 47th Juno Awards live from the Rogers Centre in Vancouver on March 25, 2018.

The announcement marks the Junos' return to CBC for the first time since 2001. The awards initially aired as a radio-only broadcast on CBC Radio in 1973. Two years later they moved to CBC Television, where they remained until 2001.

“We are excited to embark on our partnership with the CBC," said Allan Reid, president and CEO of CARAS/The Juno Awards and MusiCounts. "As our official broadcaster, their vision to wrap themselves with ongoing Juno programming throughout the year, aligns with our continued efforts to elevate the Juno experience engaging Canadians from coast to coast to coast.”

As part of the partnership, CBC has made a bigger pledge to work with CARAS to further invest in new, cross-genre events and programming to support Canadian music and the next generation of Canadian musicians.

"By bringing the Junos back to Canada's public broadcaster and investing in new music programming initiatives, we're furthering our commitment to make CBC the home for Canadian music all year round," said Heather Conway, executive vice-president of CBC's English services. "Last summer's CBC broadcast of the Tragically Hip's Kingston concert shows that music has the power to bring us together as a nation. We look forward to partnering with Allan and the CARAS team to nurture homegrown artists and bring Canadian music to new heights in this country."
