First Play Live: Scott Helman, Hôtel de Ville

By
Reuben Maan

Scott Helman's new album, Hôtel de Ville, was released in mid-May, which gave his fans only two weeks to learn the lyrics to his new songs. But that was more than enough time, as throngs of young people crowded the CBC Music Festival stage this past weekend and sang along to many of Helman's new songs.

"21 Days" and "Kinda Complicated" were especially big hits, being the first singles. But other new songs like "PDA," "Kites" and "Ripple Effect" were also well received. Helman gave shout-outs to his grandfather, Allan, and mom and dad, who were also singing and dancing proudly.

The 21-year-old from Toronto made a name for himself with his 2014 EP Augusta, featuring the hit single "Bungalow." Helman saved that single for the the last song of his set — watch that big finish, plus hear new music from Helman at the CBC Music Festival in the session below.
