Baritone James Westman hosts This Is My Music

By
Cathy Irving

James Westman is one of Canada's finest baritones. He is sought by opera companies at home, in the United States and in Europe. His lush, soaring voice is ideally suited for a Verdi and Puccini baritone and as a result, he is offered some of the most coveted roles in opera.

As a boy treble, Westman toured with the American Boys' Choir and the Vienna Boys Choir. He became the first boy to ever perform the last movement of Mahler's Fourth Symphony which is a role usually offered to sopranos. More recently, Westman won First Prize in several international vocal competitions. As a finalist, he took home the Audience Favourite award at the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.

On this edition of This Is My Music, Westman shares his favourite music and the stories behind his choices.

This Is My Music is heard Saturdays on Radio 2 at 10:00 am.
