Today marks the day Prince would have turned 59, and to commemorate the date we have a premiere of Juno Award-winning jazz musician Robi Botos and friends performing “Calhoun Square.”
The video was recorded last year in Montreal when seven musicians, led by Botos, came together to pay respect to the music of Prince. It is an instrumental version of the song, which is the third track on the second disc of Prince's 20th album, Crystal Ball. The band includes Botos on keyboards, Cory Henry on organ, Larnell Lewis on drums, Mike Downes on bass, Lionel Loueke on electric guitar, Seamus Blake on tenor saxophone and EWI, plus Ingrid Jensen on trumpet.
Watch the video of their performance, done in one full take, below.
Robi Botos and his trio will be performing at Salle Bourgie in Montreal this Saturday night as part of the Montreal Chamber Music Festival. Find more information here.
