When Jon Kimura Parker was in Vancouver back in March, performing Beethoven with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, we asked him to drop by CBC's Studio One to play a "party piece" of his choice.
One of Debussy's Arabesques? Chopin's Minute Waltz? A Rachmaninoff Prelude, maybe?
Nope. Kimura Parker chose Danny Elfman's theme music from The Simpsons, which probably shouldn't come as a surprise, since he's known for playing non-classical encores — one of his favourites used to be Oscar Peterson's "If/Manha de Carnaval" — and his skills as an arranger and improviser are off the chain.
