You could call them a supergroup, Canada's Fleetwood Mac or the gold standard for indie rock. For 20 years, the New Pornographers have rolled out a truly remarkable string of albums filled with bombastic, wall-of-sound rock layered with soaring melodies.
Earlier this year, the Vancouver band released its seventh album, Whiteout Conditions, which the bandmates performed in CBC Vancouver's studio for a First Play Live. They also performed several older favourites, all in front of an intimate studio audience. Now you can hear those tracks for yourself in a radio special called Open Air with host Grant Lawrence.
The program will be heard across B.C. at 5 p.m. local time on CBC Radio One on Saturday, Aug. 19. If appointment listening isn't your thing, you can listen to the entire show below.
