In the spirit of the upcoming Canadian Country Music Association Awards, we asked Canadians to share their favourite country songs of all time. The responses painted a wide-ranging picture of what the country scene looks like in Canada: on one hand, there was a love and respect for legendary songs by artists like Ian and Sylvia, and on the other, a genuine excitement for new acts bursting with energy and talent like James Barker Band and Madeline Merlo.
We'll start our playlist — as decided by you — with country classics by national icons like Shania Twain and move to some newer jams by CCMA-nominated groups like Saskatchewan's Hunter Brothers. Paul Brandt and Dean Brody were so popular in your responses that their top songs made our list more than once.
