Enrique Granados had a soft spot for human frailty. His greatest success was Goyescas, a series of musical portraits of Spanish society in which pride, hubris and impulse were observed, catalogued and gently mocked. We can only hope he would be as forgiving with himself over his own terrible, tragic demise.
The second instalment of Classical (De)Composition, a video series written by CBC Music's Tom Allen, takes us on the triumphant and tragic final journey of the great Spanish composer. Illustrations by Huan Tran. Watch it below.
