A lot happens during an awards weekend, and one of the best things is being able to hear musicians talk about their work, their awards and maybe tell some stories from past awards that were supposed to be a secret.

We’ve collected the best things we heard all weekend below — and if you have anything to add, please do let us know via @CBCMusic on Twitter.

“I don’t know how to play for sober people.” — Meghan Patrick performing at Fan Village

“I’ve got a rule now: I don’t play guitars that are younger than me.” — Murray McLauchlan at the Legends show, playing on a 1934 Gibson

“My freakin’ shoes hurt so much that I launched those puppies into the Bay of Fundy after that party.” — Jackie Rae Greening on her partying at a Saint John CCMA Awards

“I think Jess Moskaluke is the best singer in country music today.” — Paul Brandt on the red carpet

“The great thing about country music in Canada is how diverse and proud the fans are.” — Jonny Harris, introducing Brett Kissel’s performance during the awards

“I might have a picture of her hugging me. I might.” — Kira Isabella on Shania Twain giving her a choreography lesson during dress rehearsal

“To all the girls: we are killing it this year ... this is for all of us. I love you guys.” — Meghan Patrick after winning for female artist of the year

“To be so fortunate to have made a career out of what started as a hobby and a childhood passion, wow. This is truly humbling and surreal to me.” — Terri Clark during her Hall of Fame acceptance speech

“I’m just excited to be at my first awards show. I’m next to Shania Twain!” — Mason Ramsey, who is 11 years old

“Vulnerability never stops. I think that in order to be a great artist, you have to allow yourself to be vulnerable in some way.” — Jessica Mitchell in the media room at the awards show

“Can you just turn around for me? You’re making me nervous.” — Gord Bamford to Laura Veltz — a Nashville-based songwriter who’s written for Reba McEntire, Brothers Osborne and Maren Morris — while the two were performing at a songwriters’ circle

“I cry at anything; one time I cried at a willow tree.” — Donovan Woods at the songwriters’ circle In the Round: Crossing Borders

“Alessia really represents the empowered, independent female of today. I’m inspired by you so much, you’re amazing.” — Shania Twain on Alessia Cara, who presented Twain with her Generation Award

“The word retirement is for people who don’t like what they do. And how can I not like what I’m doing out there? ... They’ll have to drag me off the stage when I’m old and decrepit.” — Terri Clark in the media room

“Music was my escape; it took me away from my problems.” — Shania on her own childhood

“If Keith Urban’s not busy, just saying. If Nicole Kidman doesn’t mind. He is the pass at my house, by the way.” — Michelle Wright on a dream collaboration (and maybe more)

“It’s more than little-girl Jess could have ever imagined.” — Jess Moskaluke on working with Shania Twain

“It’s like a big, dysfunctional family reunion.” — James Barker Band on the CCMA Awards
