Earlier this week, Montreal-born conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin took to the podium as Metropolitan Opera music director for the first time and began his tenure in one of the most prestigious roles in music.
Before the opening performance of Verdi’s La Traviata, he sat down for a candid conversation with The National’s Rosemary Barton and discussed leadership, making opera accessible, his Canadian roots and his “above average” energy level.
