Avril Lavigne's first studio album in six years is coming out Feb. 15, and to get fans excited, she has released a brand new single with rapper Nicki Minaj.
The song is called "Dumb Blonde," an "anthem for anyone who has been stereotyped or talked down to," as the pop star explained on Instagram. It's a fun and cheerful song that opens with a drum line that makes way for blaring horns and a guitar riff as Lavigne sings, "I ain't no dumb blonde/ I ain't no stupid Barbie doll/ I got my game on/ You gon' watch me, watch me, watch me prove you wrong."
Leading up to its release, Lavigne and Minaj exhanged tweets. "I used to drive to my job @ Red Lobster playing this woman's album for an hour straight everyday for months," Minaj said, praising Lavigne's 2002 debut album Let Go and shouting out songs like "I'm With You," "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi." "This woman is so unbelievably talented."
In return, Lavigne said: "@NickiMinaj is my favourite!!! I've been listening to her for so long. As soon as I recorded #DumbBlonde, I knew she'd be the perfect artist to collaborate with on it. When she said yes it was like a dream come true!!!"
