For Polaris Music Prize's latest cover session, it has enlisted 2017 short-list nominees Weaves to perform one of the band's favourite songs off of Arcade Fire's seminal album, Funeral. (Funeral was selected by the public in 2016 as a Polaris Heritage Prize winner in the 1996-2005 category.)
Promising to put its own "Weaves-y" spin on the anthemic "Neighbouhood #3 (Power Out)," the Toronto band strips the track of its bells and whistles, instead focusing on its central bass and guitar parts while singer Jasmyn Burke brings her unique vocal flares to the forefront. It's a version that maintains the foundation of the original song while having fun twisting and turning the details.

The 2018 Polaris Music Prize long list will be announced on June 14.
