Earlier this month, during a concert in Toronto, R&B star the Weeknd announced to his hometown crowd that he was working on new music. "I want you guys to be the first to know that I'm working on my new album right now," he revealed. "Chapter 6 coming soon."
While no further details have come out regarding his new album, he did post a cryptic image on his Instagram this week. The black-and-white silhouette image of his head came with the caption: "love this. VI." That last part, of course, is the number six, likely hinting at his sixth studio album.
In addition to spending time in the studio, the Weeknd has been very busy, helping with the launch of Hxouse, an artist incubator based in Toronto that aims to help foster new creative talent. (The Weeknd is listed as the creative director of Hxouse.) On its website, it says that Hxouse helps "facilitate connections between talent and industry to build mutually beneficial relationship between future talent and current industry titans."
This week, the Weeknd was also named by Forbes as the fifth highest-paid celebrity in the world, earning $57 million. He comes in on the list just behind Taylor Swift, soccer star Neymar, Ed Sheeran and Kylie Jenner.
So, could we end the year with a brand new Weeknd album? We don't know, but we're keeping a close eye on his social media accounts, just in case.
