Justin Bieber announces break from music to focus on 'deep rooted issues'

It's been almost four years since Justin Bieber's last full-length album, Purpose, and it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer for new music.

The Canadian pop star took to Instagram today to address the countless messages from his fans hoping for a new album. But, instead of sharing details of any upcoming projects, Bieber announced that he is taking a hiatus to focus on his mental health.

"I've toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s," he wrote. "I realized, and as you guys probably saw, I was uphappy last tour and I don't deserve that, and you don't deserve that. You pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour."

In July 2017, Bieber cancelled the remaining 14 dates on his Purpose tour due to "unforeseen circumstances," later telling fans in a social media post: "I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind, heart and soul to be sustainable."

In recent months, Bieber has opened up even more about his struggles of feeling "super disconnected and weird." Late last year, Bieber married Hailey Baldwin, and in a February interview with Vogue, the two discussed the joys and hardships of a new marriage.

Baldwin, who now goes by Hailey Bieber, noted: "We're coming from a really genuine place. But we're two young people who are learning as we go. I'm not going to sit here and lie and say it's all a magical fantasy. It's always going to he hard [...] We're really young, and that's a scary aspect. We're going to change a lot. But we're committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes." While the couple is open about the imperfections of their relationship, Hailey has denied rumours of a potential split, and that the two have "trust issues."

"I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep rooted issues that I have, as most of us have, so I don't fall apart," Bieber continued in his newest online post. "So that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be." (The couple has not officially announced a preganacy so it is unclear if he is referring to the present or future.)

Bieber says "nothing comes before my family and my health," but promises that "a kick ass album" will arrive as soon as possible. He concludes: "My swag is undeniable and my drive is indescribable [...] the top is where I reside period, whether I make music or not."
